1,923 Rejection Letters, 12 Month of Job Search and Mr. Shakespeare Never Gave Up!

This is one of the most inspiring stories I have read or heard. It’s a story of young man named Richard Shakespeare. He suffers from cerebral palsy, “a group of disorders that affect a person's ability to move and to maintain balance and posture.”

He was dismissed in 2009, and that’s when he started the job search. He spent 12 month sending out out 1923 applications, all of which were rejected. He made sure he applied for jobs in his district and for jobs he can physically do. He scored 98% in his aptitude test, so he is skillful and not a single employer offered him a job. Yet, Mr. Shakespeare never gave up.

Mr. Shakespeare decided to shake up his pocket and start off his own business. A business idea that was inspired from his dreadful experience of the 12 month job search, whereby businesses didn't know how to deal with people of disability. He said, “Interviewers would feel uncomfortable and nervous, unsure as to how to treat someone who's disabled.”

After quite of a market research, he concluded that businesses are willing to get that training/advising in dealing with people of disability from someone with real-life experience and perspective. His consulting business has flourished and is now successful and booming.

Do you have Richard Shakespeare's spirit in you?
