Fake It Till You Make It

As much as we feel that something nice has to happen to be happy as much as it is totally unnecessary. We often wait for a joke to laugh or watch a light comedy movie to have some delighted time. We like comedians, we like to laugh!

The good news is that even if you are down and compelled to have that thing under your nose faced downwards, you can still have a good time without a comedian by your side. You might be asking, how is that? The answer is simple: Fake it till you make it.

A popular belief amongst us is that if you don’t feel like smiling then you can’t. This belief that something nice has to happen so you can be cheered is absolutely mistaken. William James, a psychologist and a philosopher, believes that you can smile and enjoy it even if you don’t feel like it. He said: “Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feelings go together; and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling, which is not.”

It doesn’t only work when you are with a crowd. It could be as much effective when you are alone. How about a smile, a happy memory or humming your favorite song?

Next time you feel down, fake it. You might just end up having the best time.
