Inspirational Quotes by Paulo Coelho from “The Alchemist”

“The Alchemist”, the most popular book of Paulo Coelho, has inspired many people. It’s a spiritual book that makes you think about your dreams, where some might agree or disagree with him in a few parts but all in all it is a great piece of art. While reading it, I have come across some lines where I had to stop, read them again and wander for a while. Because like many people I read and hear words but tend to forget them, I decided to list down those lines so anyone or I could read them whenever we wish.

  • “It‘s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
  • “It’s this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world greatest lie.”
  • “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.”
  • “If you start out by promising what you don’t even have yet, you’ll lose your desire to work toward getting it.”
  • “When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”
  • “It’s called the principle of favorability. When you play cards the first time, you are almost sure to win. Beginner’s luck.”
  • “Don’t forget that everything you deal with is only one thing and nothing else.”
  • “I’m like everyone else—I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what actually does.”
  • “I’m afraid that if my dream is realized, I’ll have no reason to go on living.”
  • “You must always know what it is that you want.”
  • "Every blessing ignored becomes a curse."
  • “The desert is so huge, and the horizons so distant, that they make a person feel small, and as if he should remain silent.”
  • “We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it’s our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand.”
  • “When you can’t go back, you have to worry only about the best way of moving forward.”
  • “It’s only those who are persistent, and willing to study things deeply, who achieve the Master Work.”
  • “Everyone has his or her own way of learning things.”
  • “When I’m eating, that’s all I think about. If I’m on the march, I just concentrate on marching. If I have to fight, it will be just as good a day to die as any other.”
  • “Now, I’m beginning what I could started ten years ago. But I’m happy at least that I didn’t wait twenty years.”
  • “If good things are coming, they will be a pleasant surprise. If bad things are, and you know in advance, you will suffer greatly before they even occur.”
  • “Life attracts life.”
  • “If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back. If what you have found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on you return.”
  • “There is only one way to learn. It’s through action.”
  • “People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don’t deserve them, or that they’ll be unable to achieve them. We, their hearts, become fearful just thinking of loved ones who go away forever, or of moments that could have been good but weren’t, or of treasures that might have been found but were forever hidden in the sands. Because, when these things happen, we suffer terribly.”
  • "The fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself."
  • “Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place.”
  • “Every search begins with beginner’s luck. And every search ends with the victor’s being severely tested.”
  • “When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed.”
  • “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
