One More Thing to Be Happy

At this very moment, there is something that you think you need to be happy. Just this one more thing if you have it, you will finally be happy. That’s what you think. That’s what we all think. Except that this isn’t always the case. As a matter of fact, when you get it, you will find yourself needing something else. Something more. Something different.

Your hopes and ambitions will move from stage to stage. Maybe you have seen a friend of yours who is horribly worried of where she going to have her birthday party. For you, maybe it’s a really silly reason for someone to get upset over. You can’t find it deep inside you why is it so important for her when you couldn’t care any less about such a topic. Maybe you don’t want to celebrate your birthday at all. Better if no one remembered it altogether.

This could be explained by a psychology theory proposed by Abraham Maslow in 1943 called Maslow's hierarchy of needs. It demonstrates the needs we go after in a pyramidal way. The base of the pyramid is what needs to get fulfilled first. Then comes the second stage. Then the third and so on till you reach the top.

For instance, if we look at the above figure, if you can't find a place to sleep would you really care about your health right now? If you don't have a job or regular income, would you really care much about falling in love and “finding the one”?
