A Lookup for an Innovative Idea

If you want to design something new, something novel, what will you do?

Sometimes inspiration strikes out of nowhere. The idea just comes and you feel the urge to create something innovative that will improve the world. However, if you weren’t struck by an idea, you can’t just wait till inspiration comes by. It doesn’t work that way. You might not even start. It may never come.

If you want to create something different, something worthy that will be used; you need to start looking in the needs of others. You need to start putting yourself in someone else’s shoes.

There are many techniques for you to start exploring opportunities. I am going to mention below a few of them.
  1. Observing: You will learn a lot by doing that. You watch them. You live their lives with them. Look over their every move. Look for faults. Look for errors. You will find a routine. You will find a process that could be improved.
  2. Interviewing: You could simply ask. However, don’t ask what they want. They don’t know what they want. Ask how they do it. Learn about their goals. Know their aspirations. Make it happen for them.
  3. Pay people to participate: No one dislikes money. If you don’t have much money, offer a token, a certificate or a gift. People acknowledge that. They love being part of something innovative.
  4. Diary studies: Create a diary for people to fill. Make it on paper, audio or video. Remind people. Collect the diaries. Know your pattern. Create the design.

There are much, much more techniques, but here is a start. Remember, everyone got a story. Let them share it, learn from it and use it for a better design.

People are experts of their own lives, use them.
